"The Mystery of the Yellow Room" is a mystery novel written by Gaston Leroux. It was first published in 1907 and is one of the first locked-room mystery novels. The story revolves around a complex crime in which the criminal seemingly disappears from a locked room. The protagonist, Joseph Rouletabille, is a reporter and amateur sleuth who is sent to investigate the case. He meets and interrogates various characters, including the police detective Frédéric Larsan. More attempts are made on the victim's life, and the perpetrator appears to vanish on multiple occasions. Eventually, Rouletabille reveals that the culprit is Larsan himself, who is accused of being an alter-ego of a master criminal called Ballmeyer. The novel has received praise from other mystery writers and has been adapted into stage plays, films, and radio shows.
