"Aunt Jane's Nieces" is a series of ten novels written by L. Frank Baum under the pen name "Edith Van Dyne." The first book, published in 1906, tells the story of Jane Merrick, a wealthy woman who calls her three teenage nieces to decide who will inherit her estate. The nieces, Louise, Beth, and Patsy, each have their own struggles and personalities. As they visit Aunt Jane, they begin to understand and appreciate each other. The story takes a twist when it is revealed that Kenneth Forbes, a nephew of Jane's deceased fiancé, is the rightful heir to the estate. The series continues with the nieces' adventures, including travel, romances, and involvement in the Red Cross during World War I. The books were popular at the time and have been reprinted in recent years.
