Publiée par les éditions Calmann-Lévy depuis le début de sa carrière, l'Américaine Patricia Highsmith est l'une des plus grandes romancières du XXe siècle. Elle s'est tout de suite fait un nom en France avec la parution en 1951 de L'Inconnu du Nord-Express, adapté au cinéma par Alfred Hitchcock. En 1958, Le Talentueux M. Ripley remporte le prestigieux Grand Prix de littérature policière. En tout, ce sont plus d'une trentaine d'oeuvres qui lient cette autrice majeure et les éditions Calmann-Lévy. Patricia Highsmith inspire toujours aujourd'hui de nombreux écrivains en France et dans le monde, et son oeuvre a donné lieu à une filmographie impressionnante.
