Key West, 1933. On his island paradise, Ernest Hemingway is bored, stuck in the rut of an unstable marriage, too-easy fishing expeditions, and one-sided bar fights. His once-limitless world has shrunk to a few acres of land and a few ripples in the water.
Janet, however, is doing great. She and all of her twelve years have just arrived on the key, the last stop before Cuba. And she’s got a plan to turn the few dollars left to her by her grandfather, a modest fisherman, into a whole bunch more.
Prohibition is still the law, but Cuban rum is only a couple of hours away if you’ve got a quick boat and a taste for adventure. Hemingway’s got both, plus a burning desire to have a little fun.
Sometimes, however, the best laid plans get foiled in ways that even a future Nobel laureate can’t imagine.
