How To Tell You?
by Mikko Ranskalainen
After his mother’s death, Mikko leaves his native Finland to join his father in France. A young foreigner, somewhat awkward, he faces difficult first years in Normandy. He grows attached to François, who becomes his only friend.
As the years go by, his friendship for the boy—now a handsome teenager—slowly turns into something deeper. Although Mikko suspects that François might share the same feelings, he doesn’t dare speak of it. He cannot risk losing a friendship that means everything to him.
Torn between the desire for emotional stability and an all-consuming passion, Mikko struggles to find the right words to “tell him.” When he finally feels ready for any answer, he decides to speak.
How To Tell You? first appeared briefly online as a blog. Out of modesty, Mikko Ranskalainen was reluctant to see his story published. Captivated by his experience, style, and mastery of French, the publisher persuaded him to share his story to help other young people facing similar challenges. For this edition, Mikko has thoroughly rewritten and expanded his original text.
