Claudia is a young woman whose desperate longings drive her from comfortable lodgings into the city, the arms of many men, young and old, not a few women, one brief stint in a massage parlor, into contact with a U.S. senator, and on and on. Perhaps, given its original location, we might call her Sister Carrie's Younger Sister, but more likely the author of this surprisingly literate work had in mind John Cleland's epic.
